Hope you are all having a good day!
I would like to share my Jiufen and Shifen trip with you all! Last weekend my friend and I went to Keelung City. Being there, we decided we would visit Jiufen and Shifen since it’s nearer as compared to coming from Taoyuan or Taipei. We then rode a 400NTD taxi to Jiufen. I know what you are all thinking, not very practical for students right? But whatever, I don’t want all of our time wasted on riding the bus or train. So yeah, we went to Jiufen as you can see in the picture below. That is actually the first photo of myself that I have posted on this blog.
Jiufen Old Street
We are actually quite lucky by the time we went to visit Jiufen, there aren’t a lot of people and it’s a Saturday! So if you guys want to visit this place, you have to go there on weekdays for you not to risk going there with a lot of people. You don’t want a crowded place amidst a hot and sticky weather! (Gross!) I also suggest you should go there around 3 PM in the afternoon, so the sun would not be as bright and it will be much cooler.
Jiufen Old Street is really interesting because of the old architecture and red lanterns. I really love how they designed the whole place with red lanterns because it just really makes you feel like you are in the ancient times. I also love how the Taiwanese government decided to preserve this place which I really agree with. I think it is a great idea for the government to preserve these things and places because it will give the youth an opportunity to know more about the country’s history. It gives them the opportunity to know the lifestyle, culture, and thinking of their ancestors. If you are into these kinds of old streets like me, there are a lot of old streets actually around the country. Here is a link of all the old streets in Taiwan.
Mode of Transportation:
I will just link a guide for you to click on Guide to Jiufen.
For our lunch, we have decided to have it in this restaurant. This restaurant is actually quite new because I was trying to find the location of this restaurant in Google Maps and I actually can’t find it yet. This restaurant serves good food and it’s not pricey at all!! The pictures are there down below. If you’re finding a restaurant in this place, I will recommend you to go to this restaurant. Also, if you went there on a really hot day, you can drop by this place since it has really cold AC. The interior of this restaurant is kind of like Japanese style which is quite ironic since this place is a Taiwanese old street. But I don’t know, maybe they would also want to cater to the Japanese market (Marketing side of me is actually showing haha).
小師父 Xiao Shi Fu
We have passed by also with this place but we weren’t able to dine here. They serve Hainanese chicken (for all the Singaporeans out there, love your Hainanese chicken btw!). I have heard a lot of great reviews about this place. I would love to try this restaurant next time if I am able to visit Jiufen again. So if you guys are into Hainanese chicken, you can check this place out!

Hanlin Tea House
Let me start off by saying, I really love this place!! This place is really cool since you can go to the basement of this tea house and enjoy the scenic view of Jiufen! Well, actually they have the first floor and the basement for you to enjoy the view.
They serve milk teas and other Taiwanese desserts. Their serving sizes are really big which is why they charge much more when you’re going to dine in. It would much cheaper if it’s taken out. I remember this Panda Milk Tea is only around 85NTD for take outs and 175NTD for dine in. You might me wondering why they call it Panda Milk Tea when it’s usually just Bubble Milk Tea, I actually didn’t have the opportunity to ask them about this. So, sorry guys haha but don’t worry, the milk tea is fantastic!! In my opinion, this milk tastes creamier which means you can taste more of the milk than the tea. They also have to kinds of boba in this drink. One is the pearl which is the black one and another is a much smaller, white colored Boba.
Again if you went there, it’s hot, and you’re a cold-blooded person like me, you can check this place out since they provide a very cool AC.

After Jiufen, my friends and I have decided to go back to our hotel at Keelung ( I know, we’re so lazy). We rode the taxi again and we’re on our way. But in that ride, the driver asked us if we wanted to go to the other places like Shifen Waterfall, Shifen Lantern Street, and Golden Waterfalls for only 2000NTD. For me, that’s a good deal since it’s the 4 of us in the taxi and each of us would only be paying 500NTD. That is a really good deal for me since the cost of riding trains would be time-consuming, tiring and not practical. By riding the taxi, you can save energy and time. The cost is also quite the same, so the money you would be paying is already worth it. Sometimes you can ask the driver to take you to more places but be sure to haggle to get cheaper prices!
The taxi driver took us to this place as a side trip. This place is so amazing! It is an overlooking of the ocean and mountains of Taiwan.
When you’re going to Shifen Waterfalls, you have to walk for 10 minutes for you to get there. You would also pass by a hanging bridge and a railway which is still working. Trains pass by once in a while.

This place is very beautiful since, by the name itself, it is covered in gold. The reason its gold is that of the huge amount of rainfall and a mining area beside the place. The waterfall is not the only location that has gold but when you’re going to take a look at the canal when riding a car or something, it is also gold! Amazing!

I hope you all enjoyed reading as much as I did travelling. Let me know if you also went to these places. I would love to hear your stories! Hope you all have a great rest of your day!
