Tainan is unlike any other city in Taiwan. Get a hint of their history and culture by visiting historical places. In addition to this, indulge in the flavorful food this city has to offer! Even though there were thunderstorms in the afternoon, nothing stopped us from getting the most out of this very insightful city! If you wanted to experience something different, keep scrolling!
Chihkan Tower (Fort Provintia)
This place has a very rich history. Personally, I am very interested as to how this place was built and the story behind why this structure is still being preserved until now. As I’ve said in my previous post, Tainan Day 1, Tainan is the oldest city in the country, therefore, you would get a lot of insights and experiences the country has endured to become the present day Taiwan. If you are into the history of Taiwan, then I really recommend you to visit this place.

If you’re one of those people who haven’t experienced snow before (like me) and you wanted to have your picture taken in something that looks a lot like a snow mountain, then don’t worry! Visit the Salt Mountain and you’ll get your perfect snow mountain look-a-like shot! Being the name of this mountain, Salt Mountain is really full of salt. There are tons of salt located in this mountain which makes the mountain as white as snow. Now, this is just one of a kind! You don’t have to travel to cold countries just to get that picture!
There are a lot of ways on how to go to this place; usually, buses are the most common means of transportation since you don’t really have subways in Tainan. It takes about an hour to reach this place. Don’t worry if it takes too long to arrive because the view is really worth it.
If you wanted to shop for souvenirs, there is a shop that sells anything that is made of salt like soaps and a lot more! Since the scorching heat got the best of us, we were really so thankful that outside the souvenir shop, there is a store that sells salt ice cream! You can choose from a variety of flavors but my personal favorite is the Salted Egg flavor!

吻鑽糖 (Wěn zuān táng)
There’s something distinct about this shop that made us stop by while we were walking along the street. Something about this shop has sparked our curiosity. When we went in, we were greeted by the very fragrant smell of cheese!
The taste of this cheese tart is, as the Italians would say, “Squisito!”. I immediately fell in love at my first bite. This has got to be the best cheese tart I’ve ever tasted. You can all get the plain flavor for just NT$40.

鄭記土魠魚羹 (Zhèng jì tǔ tuō yú gēng)
We had Fish soup and fish eggs for lunch. The fish eggs don’t look quite appetizing at first and I think it’s quite exotic if you cook it this way but when you taste it, it’s really delicious!
The food is quite cheap since it’s only around NT$40-50 per dish.
On the side note: Be careful when throwing trash, the lady can get really cautious about the things you throw.
I have always admired how honest the Taiwanese people can be. The presence of this shop says a lot about the discipline of Taiwanese people.

Old Tait & Co. Merchant House
The main attraction of this museum is all about an artist’s calligraphy works. Besides all of his wide variety of works, the museum is also interactive. They allow you to practice calligraphy in a cement table and the likes.

Anping Tree house
The interesting thing about this tree house is how the roots and branches of the could cover the whole thing! Even though it will be scorching hot when traveling during summer, the place is quite cool and windy because of the presence of plants. The place is also quite a maze inside, you have to go up and down flights of stairs.
If ever you all feel like bringing something back to your hometown, a souvenir shop could be located near the tree house. A cafe is also present inside the souvenir shop, don’t worry if it gets too hot outside. You can always chill inside the cafe.
